Social networking sites: The 30 most useful

Having a difficult time understanding the dozens of social networking sites, how to use them in your publicity campaign, and which to use first?

Check out this fabulous list, in order of importance, courtesy of Jane Copland at SEOmoz.org. She lists each site’s “pitch,” then gives you her take, pointing out the pros and cons of each site and how to use it—or not use it.

A tip of the hat to Sally Falkow for pointing out this list in Bulldog Reporter’s Daily Dog.

I’d love to hear about Publicity Hounds’ success stories using these social networking sites.

Great resource. I’ve posted to Yahoo Answers with good results and am looking at the others sites (most I am very familiar with, a few are new to me). While checking out one of these sites, I found Listible.com. This is a website site that enables users to build lists of useful websites. Once a list is started, anyone registered with the site can add a website to the list (assuming it is applicable to the list’s topic).

I was surprised to not see YouTube.com on the list. Small companies have used YouTube.com to promote indie films and other products, services or causes with great results.

Thanks for the hat tip Joan. How nice to see a link from the Publicity Hound.

If you are in New York for SES let’s catch up.
Otherwise I am sure I’ll see you at the Media Relations Summit in DC in June.

I am hosting a social media breafast roundtable and we’ll be digging into which social media sites to use to get a specific result.
