I just received TV reporter Jeff Crilley’s excellent email newsletter which you can subscribe to here, and I wanted to share his terrific tip on one way to generate publicity as St. Patrick’s Day nears.
You don’t have to have an Irish pub to tie into this holiday. A few years ago, Kim Morris from Pappy’s Pet Lodge in Dallas was a media star on several TV stations and featured in the Dallas Morning News by offering to dye dogs green in honor of St. Patty’s Day. Kim remembered reading in my book that in the days approaching the major holidays, the media ends up doing a lot of stories that tie into the celebration. And in her mind, she suddenly saw green dogs!
The publicity was priceless for Kim. The dog-friendly dye washed out, but she still benefits from the free media exposure she received with that clever endeavor. Her customers loved it.
You don’t need the luck of the Irish to get media attention. Just use a little creativity and you’ll have the media barking up your tree.
Thanks, Jeff. Two-legged and four-legged Hounds everywhere thank you.
