Indoor water park can promote during off-season

Karla Swita of Wausau, Wisconsin gets advice from Publicity Hounds on how to promote her indoor water park during the off-season.

From Lee Newman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin:

“I am going to a high school reunion in Wausau in a couple weeks. That would be a great place to stay and meet old friends. Get to those high school reunion committees.”

From Cheryl Isen of Seattle, Washington:

“How about trying a twist on the old ‘Christmas in July’ idea? Here’s the thought: Kids are on winter break in late December so organize a ‘Summer in December’ extravaganza. Invite families to experience summer again with a lemonade and hot dog promotion. For a fun giveaway, have the kids write down their favorite summer memory and do a drawing for giant beach ball giveaways.

“To kick the event off with a publicity stunt, you could have an area cleared away and have a large load of sand delivered and then sponsor a sand castle building contest too. For ongoing publicity, consider a monthly ‘event’ tied to a monthly holiday. For example, in January, a ‘Jump into the new year.’ Make it fun with a biggest splash cannon ball contest. In February, a synchronized swimming event with free lessons for love birds; March, dye the water green for St. Patrick’s Day and have a contest for the ugliest green swimwear…and on and on throughout the year.

From Mary Migliorelli of Salt Lake City, Utah:

“Have ‘Mommy and Me’ afternoons for new moms and babies (like our movie theatres do here in Utah). Add some child care experts, a couple of massage therapists, combine playtime and renewal….co-hosted with local pediatric groups, women’s health centers, mental health associations.”
