Online games, quizzes great for website promotion

If you’re trying to attract traffic to your website, a simple link in your online press release often isn’t good enough. You have to give people a good reason to visit.

Thanks to the Wylie’s Writing Tips ezine for tipping us off to the cool quizzes and games in the Gotham Gazette, a website with daily content offered each weekday by the Citizens Union Foundation of the City of New York, a non-profit research and education group.

Readers are asked to help decide public policy issues like the fate of the city’s garbage, the right way to balance civil liberties and security in an emergency, and  developing a balanced land use plan for a neighborhood.

The site even lets the virtual policy-makers explain the solutions they’ve proposed.

What quiz or game can you create at your website that will attract traffic and involve visitors in your topic? If it’s compelling enough, the media might print your release. (See “Briefs, Fillers & Quizzes: How to Write Them and Why Editors Love Them.”)

Don’t forget to alert bloggers who write about your topic. (See “How to Pitch the Best Bloggers & Create a Publicity Explosion.”)

Authors can tie a quiz to their book. Nonprofits can tie it to their cause or issue. Companies of any size can tie it to their product or service. Here’s a quiz I created about writing press releases to pull readers to my website, where they can sign up for my free email tutorial “89 Ways to Write Powerful Press Releases.”
