—Create a list of the most influential bloggers that blog on your topic. Then start posting comments to their blogs. Eventually, you will pitch them.
—Double your media placements by offering journalists a little something extra along with your pitch. They’ll love you for it, and this might tip the scales in your favor.
—Offer statistics to journalists so they can create things like maps, bar charts and pie charts to accompany their stories
—Think beyond the “adult angle” when pitching. Can your pitch be tweaked and turned into a story that would appeal to parents, or can you turn the pitch into one with a kids’ angle?

Dear Joan,
We run a small, two-woman PR firm, and we need help finding a media search service at a reasonable price. We often need to search editorial calendars or media profiles to find publication opportunities for our clients. We don’t know the names of specific magazines in most cases, we only know the topic, e.g., uniforms, patents, organic farming, etc. We have been using Bacon’s (now Cision). Their data base is super, but the process is awkward and the price is huge for our small operation. I visited your PR Resources list, but I don’t see what we need listed. (Wooden Horse has only 2,000 listings in the data base.) What else does The Publicity Hound recommend? How do you research feature article publishing opportunies?
