Throw away everything most textbooks tell you about how to write a dull-as-dishwater press release. The trick is to cast your message as an intriguing story without crossing the line into hype.
My favorite example of all the releases I’ve written: I was hired to write a press release for a new book on electronic privacy. Rather than the expected–and deadly–“Electronic Privacy Expert Releases New Book,” I used this much more captivating headline: “It’s 10 O’Clock–Do You Know Where Your Credit History Is?”
