Katie Schwartz Chattanooga, TN, asks:
“What are some ways to reach education reporters, or parents of students about to enter college?
“I have written an ebook called Portable Parent for parents and college students, with advice the students need on life skills such as time and money management, as well as much more. Parents download it, add their input and upload it to the students’ computers so the advice is ready when they are. Instant info, with a parent’s input, 24/7. How can I publicize this?”

Hello Katie
There is a group called the American School Counselor Association that has approximately 20,000+ members. You might promote your ebook through their bookstore or contact some of their members to review it so that you can use the comments as a testimonial. This is a 2 step approach to getting to the parent but one that will lend credibility to your endeavor.

Hi Katie,
I work at a local College and know first hand that students need this information way before they start college. I suggest that you start with K12 counselors and parents and get the student prepared beforehand.
Once they start college there is too much other information they are trying to retain and trying to get adjusted to the new surroundings is overwhelming. Even if you were able to have colleges include this in the students orientation packets, the students would never read it.

Katie, several months ago, I blogged about 26 ways to promote an ebook
Many, but not all, of the tips I suggested there will apply to your ebook.
Here’s another idea. Back-to-school sections, which magazines and newspapers print in late summer, are ideal places to publicize your book. Google “back to school section” and see if you can find contact information for editors.
Start pitching magazines right now. Pitch newspapers in mid-summer. Don’t forget bloggers who write about parenting issues. See “How to Pitch the Best Bloggers and Create a Publicity Explosion”
See my article on how to let bloggers create publicity for you.
