Christian recording artist needs publicity tips

Jilleen of Santa Ana, California writes:

“I am a Christian recording artist and speaker from Santa Ana, California. I recently released a new CD project called “The Hymns Experience.” It’s an interactive modern-day musical journey into the history of America’s all-time favorite hymns. To listen to a few songs from the album, please visit http://www.jilleen.com/music.html

“What would you recommend that I do to help get publicity for the album in magazines, newspapers and and on websites?”

I used to be a fan club president for an unknown country singer. She has an awesome voice but never quite made it because her label went bankrupt before they could promote her. But, I did get her well known on the internet. I spent tons of time going to every country website I could find (and there are a LOT of them out there) requesting a link exchange via the webmasters. On our website I had a “links” button and on it were at least 100 country links from the exchange. You have no idea how much traffic that it brought to our website. People were so nice and many of the sites wanted to post her picture on their pages or put her music on their site. She ended up being featured on several. Internet promotion and link exchanges work wonders. I had one website that featured promising up and comers along with music clips of each artist. Montgomery Gentry’s webmaster contacted me when they just getting to be known and look where all their internet marketing (as well as their great talent) got them.

Jilleen, Madonna is starting her “Confessions” tour. Perhaps this could be a goldmine of free publicity for any Christian musician that ties them to an anti hedonist movement exactly opposite of what Madonna represents.

Not only is Madonna a target for this but she puts it right in your Christian face daring you to challenge her mock of religion by naming her tour Confessions.

Now I’m left leaning myself so I have no problem with it and plan to see her perform in Miami but from a pr standpoint seems like a perfect foil to go up against.

My first thought, well, her tour is all about quote unquote Confessions.

Now this is real daring and I don’t know if this goes up against your religous beliefs but why not hook up with a real priest and have him offer confessions on the concert grounds at every stop along the her tour.

Could you even conduct the confession in a sound booth or portable recording studio to tie into the music environment?

Of course I don’t know the religious implications of this but if you are confortable with it then this could get you tons of pub.

Rename your CD the “Confessions Experience” hand it out to those that take confession.

If concert goer won’t go to confession then get church members in the town she is performing at to go to confession at her concerts.

I’m sure they’ll feel the need to help you fight against her anti-religious themes.

Call youself the first artist to write hymns that encourage people to go to confession.

Have church goers gather outside her concert for prayer sessions praying for the souls of people that attend her concert.

Have a special mass reserved for christians feeling guilty they attended a Madonna concert.

Get where I’m going with this. Just an idea that you may or may not like but I’m just trying to open up to ideas.

    Headlines:
“Christians Ask for Giveness At Madonna Concert”
“It’s Hymn or Her Says Confessions Artist About Madonna”

    Hope this helps.
