Blog promotion is easier with these 41 tips

No more excuses for publishing a blog that pulls about as much traffic as a deserted country road.

Tony Hung, guest blogger this week at ProBlogger, presents 41 ideas on How to Market Your Blog in 2007.  (A tip of the hat to Publicity Hound Colin Delany of e.politics, the online political advocacy blog, for passing this along to me.)

Tony says publishing quality content frequently is where many bloggers stop. But what good is a great blog if the world doesn’t know about it?

I found his thorough list of ideas overwhelming. But I’m going to print it out, use it as a checklist and commit to doing at least two things each week.

What about you?

Glad you enjoyed it Joan … I guess it is a little overwhelming if you look at it all at once! 🙂 I meant for it to be a reference for people if anything else … start from the top and thinmking about the other ones after “cleaning house”.

    Have a good one!
    Tony.

Dear Joan, Just heard you on Internet Talk Radio and wow. Thanks. So much valuable great information. I started my cartoon, Londons Times Cartoons http://www.londonstimes.us in a beat-up metal warehouse in rural Mississippi in March 1997 on a free web host (couldn’t afford a domain). My assets included a $100
used computer, a phone line, a stray mutt name “Thor”
and a book titled “Internet For Dummies” (I had never used a computer or the net). There was no Amazon.com or similar affiliate type programs, SEO was unheard of, PR was nearly impossible on the net without banner ads or those dismal dubious FFA sites. Today, thanks to your information and information that agrees with you, my cartoon site has made it well into the Alexa.com top 100k (64k last year); has gone down to 170k now but top 100k in Netcraft.com. All this is because of blogging and writing press releases in journalistic form (who, what, when, why, and where (optimized first 250 words) simple and sweet. Now I have launched the biggest cartoon gift and collectible superstore http://www.londonstimessuperstore.com (in Sept of 2005) which features over 65,000 items and am just now launching the first line of cartoon designer clothes
    http://www.ricklondonwear.com. In addition launched a
subscription ecard service for right-brainers (can be accessed from my main cartoon site) and I have much more planned now that I’m subscribing to your newsletter. Altogether, since 1997; I’ve spent a few thousand dollars for all that. The Internet, if used properly, definitely levels the playing field. Oh, I never finished college in my youth and am a 3rd year business student at a prestigious private university,
    all online.

Yes, all this sounds like bragging rights, and maybe it is, but I am writing it to assure you your information is sound and works. Thanks. People listen to Joan. She knows her stuff.

    Sincerely,

    Rick London

I think that the 41 ideas are a great source. I can’t commit to doing any specific amount of time to them though, as I intend to spend most of my internet related time to creating content. I’ve done some of what Tony recommends, but I find it’s easy to spiral away from what I really want to be on-line doing. I definitely will keep the 41 ideas handy as a reference.

I’ve been an avid reader of ProBlogger for awhile now, and that particular article is one of the most helpful and informative I’ve ever seen at that site (and everything there is very helpful and informative!).

I feel good because some of his suggestions are things I was already trying to work on, and I’ve already started to implement other suggestions since reading the article. Printing it off and using it as a checklist is a good idea though!

    Hi Joan

Thanks so much for pointing your readers in the direction of the 41 tips for marketing a blog. A little daunting but this will be a really useful list to keep and work through. A blogger’s work is never done…

Thanks so much for the information.

Wow! So much information in one place. I’ve been trying to find out so many things that are explained in that post that it made me dizzy just looking at it. Tony’s right, it’s overwhelming.

I’ll have to get back to it later, when I’m prepared to set aside the time and follow the links.

Thanks Joan – the link to the PrBlogger blog promotion checklist was much appreciated. I did a trackback to your post from my blog to give you credit for the great tip. However, it appears that you don’t have the trackback feature enabled. So here’s what my blog had to say about you:

    Cheers,
