Author needs ghostwriter for a book on brain health

Nancy Wurtzel of Thousand Oaks, California writes:

“I have a client who is interested in writing a book on brain health, targeted to Baby Boomers. My idea is to take the book in an entirely different direction so it will stand out from the dozens of other books that have already been published on this subject.

“We need a ghostwriter to help us refine the book concept, and write a great outline and a dynamite pitch letter to publishers.

“I can provide direction, and the physician I work with is bright, funny and reasonable. He can supply all medical information and research that will be needed—he simply does not have the time to pen the book word for word.

“Can your Hounds explain the best way for us to find a ghostwriter who’s a good fit for this topic? Any tips and resources they could provide would be greatly appreciated.”

Hi — You just did! I’d love to chat with you about ghostwriting your book — in fact, I’ve thought about writing such a book myself (as humor) and even have a title for you: The Brain — An Owner’s Manual. I’ve worked as a journalist and PR writer for 30+ years (with about 15 years in healthcare marketing), recently earned my MFA in creative writing (nonfiction), and humor is a specialty. Email me at gail@theprbuzz.com or check out my web site at http://www.theprbuzz.com. Phone: 757-930-0032.

Look for a writer who has (a) a successful track record with published books, (b) a good track record of meeting, or beating, deadlines, and (c) who has a personality that’s a good match with yours, your client, and the physician.

Try contacting American Independent Writers (formerly Washington Independent Writers). It’s the largest regional writing organization in the United States and is primarily made up of freelancers. They have a job bank for writers (it’s a little hard to find–right hand column): http://washwriter.org/

    Dear Nancy,
I too wish to throw my hat in the ring–I have written 9 books, and have worked as a technical editor for Adams Media on two of their health books.

I have quite a bit of brain health knowledge (I have written and lectured a 6 hour CME Biomed course on “The Aging Brain”) and could easily ghostwrite your physician’s treatise on baby boomer brain health. [I too have a well developed sense of humor…]I’d love to discuss this with you at your convenience…

    Sincerely,
    Heather Walters

Medical Technical Writers are the way to go. I can suggest Karen Burd – kbmagicwords@comcast.net – who can either take the assignment or recommend somebody who can.
