Authors: Don’t write a book until you read this one

Judith Briles is an author’s best friend.

She knows all the ways authors have blown a fortune over the years on so-called “book gurus” who know little, crappy printers, and horrible proofreaders. And then there are the wasted weeks, months and even years that authors spend just THINKING about writing a book. But those thoughts don’t bring money through the door.

That’s why her new book, Author YOU–Creating and Building the Author and Book Platforms, is such a find!

The world is filled with thousands of books on how to publish. But what I love about this one is the more than 20 activities that Judith instructs her readers to do to shorten the learning curve and get the words flowing.  In Activities 7 through 9, for example, she walks authors through the entire process of committing the time and money needed to write their books.

Activity 7: Finding Your Commitment Factor

Activity 8: Finding the Time

Activity 9: Finding Your Financial Commitment to Your Book

If you can’t make it past this section and actually promise yourself that you’ll do the hard work, reading this will have been worth it. Why waste time writing a book you’ll never publish? If you’ve made this far, however, all the other to-do’s will keep you on track.

Judith is offering a monster package of $2,600 worth of bonuses—including one of mine—if you buy the book today. I’m offering a very cool cheat sheet called “103 Powerful Calls-to-Action.” You can use them everywhere—on your book jacket, in your online media kit, in your pitches to journalists and bloggers, on your invoices and packing slips—so people do EXACTLY what you want them to do.

Read my 5-star review of Author You on Amazon, and then buy the book. Be sure to let me know how you’ll be using my 103 calls-to-action.

Joan… I’m honored that you shared Author YOU: Creating and Building Author and Book Platforms with your readers. Truly honored. As an author of 30 books myself, I’ve slugged through more mud and debris than I want to think about. Some was created by being with the wrong publisher; some by working with the wrong people; some I created all by myself. What no one, no one, ever told me about was a Platform … and what they really were … and how valuable they are to the author’s success.

Authors fail for a variety of reasons: zip in the editing department; bypassing professional cover and interior design; not truly knowing who their market is and writing to it; rushing to publish; not marketing the book after the book is published (this is HUGE–I deal daily with calls from authors who moan, literally moan and groan, that they put all these thousands into getting the book done and they can’t afford the money, or time, to support it; and the don’t have a Platform–for the Book and for the Author.

Dear Readers–if you want to be seriously successful in the authoring and publishing games, get Author YOU (for new authors and established–there is another book in you, I promise) now (and of course listen to the wise Publicity Hound–I pay close attention to her sage words)–I’m keeping the gifts open through the week so you can take advantage of them–as one buyer told me–“This is ridiculous to have all this stuff and your book, too.” Not so, just smart to give you.

Joan is coming to Denver, CO May 2-4 and speaking at the Author U Extravaganza–you know she’s brilliant, come meet her in person. http://www.AuthorU.org

Judith, I was astonished when I discovered that many authors have no clue who their target market is: “My Aunt Sally loved he book and she thinks everybody should read it.”

Can’t wait to speak at Author U in Denver! Thanks, again, for the invitation.
